Gender Equity Champion Awards

Overview

The Department of Medicine Gender Equity Champion Awards recognize and celebrate individuals who are advancing women/gender minorities in medicine through mentorship, leadership, advocacy, teaching and/or research.

Two awards will be presented annually. Award recipients will be honored with a certificate and recognition at the Gender Equity Medicine Grand Rounds in February.

Criteria

Mentorship

• Service as a mentor, sponsor, and/or teacher of women/gender minority individuals
• Commitment to career development and advancement of women/gender minorities generally
• Contributions to the success of work/life balance initiatives

Leadership and Advocacy

• Promoting/advocating for the recognition, advancement and/or inclusion (on committees, in leadership positions, etc.) of women/gender minorities
• Success as a leader and advocate for women/gender minorities in the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, or larger community
• Efforts to influence or institute a positive academic environment for women/gender minorities

Teaching and Research

• Leadership of educational initiatives that advance gender equity and support women/gender minorities
• Production of scholarship with impact on issues related to gender equity in medicine

Eligibility

Department of Medicine faculty who meet the award criteria and have been an employee for at least one year. Group or team nominations accepted.

Current, standing members of the Department of Medicine Gender Equity Council are excluded.

Note: Staff members may be nominated for these awards through the Outstanding Staff Award process, DEI category.

Submission Process

Any Department of Medicine member may nominate a faculty member for an award via our online awards submission process (UW Net ID required).

Please nominate staff members via our Outstanding Staff Awards.

The Department of Medicine Gender Equity Council (GEC) awards committee will review nominations, identify recipients, and make recommendations to the chair.
