Questions?
Please reach out to Dr. Cynthia Ko, associate chair for faculty affairs, for questions.
The Department of Medicine has launched Mentoring in Practice, a group‑based mentoring program designed to strengthen professional development support for early‑career faculty in the full‑time clinical and clinical practice tracks. The program connects early career faculty with mentors to foster career growth, skill development, and professional satisfaction.
Program Structure
- One mentor is paired with 4–5 early‑career mentees.
- Groups are encouraged to meet 4–5 times over an 18‑month period, with scheduling determined collaboratively.
- Meetings may cover topics such as career goal setting, promotion pathways, clinical and teaching skill development, and other areas identified by the group.
Support and Expectations
- The Department provides supporting materials, including mentoring agreements, topic guides, and access to additional mentorship resources. Experienced mentors in the Department are also available for support to the groups.
- While protected time and financial support are not provided, mentees benefit from structured guidance, community building, and resources to support career advancement. Mentors can benefit by supporting mentees, contributing to their success, and building communication and coaching skills.
- Participants will be asked to provide brief feedback during and after the 18‑month period to help refine the program for future cohorts.
