Allergy and Infectious Diseases

Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Program (ACGME): A two to three year training experience intended to provide the highest quality clinical and research training in order to equip fellows with the skills they will need for a career in academia or in private practice.

Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program (ACGME): A two to four year training experience intended for those interested in an academic career. Both MD and PhD fellows are invited to apply.

Affiliated fellowship (non-ACGME):

Global and Rural Health Fellowship: The UWGRF in Internal Medicine is a two year program based in a structured curriculum containing clinical and research training in global health, clinical training with Native populations in Alaska and South Dakota, education, mentorship, and teaching opportunities. 

Cardiology

General Cardiology Fellowship (ACGME): Cardiology trainees begin the program with two years of clinical training including rotations in cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, electrophysiology, adult congenital heart disease, heart failure and transplantation, cardiac consultation, coronary care ICU, and outpatient ambulatory cardiovascular care.

Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology Fellowship Program (ACGME): This is a three to five year program specializing in research or clinical gastroenterology and hepatology.

Transplant Hepatology (ACGME): This is a one-year program that offers Transplant hepatology training on-site of an active Liver Transplant Program.

General Internal Medicine

Addiction Medicine Fellowship (ACGME): This is a one-year program that strives to provide education in evidence-based patient care and create a supportive and comprehensive learning environment that will prepare trainees for a variety of experiences in Addiction Medicine.

Non-ACGME fellowships:

Academic Hospitalist Fellowship: This fellowship is designed for graduating internal medicine residents or early-career hospitalists seeking to accelerate their development as clinician-educators and academic leaders.

General Internal Medicine Physician-Scientist Fellowship: This fellowship provides mentored training in research methods, scholarly work, and leadership to support the development of scholars in academic General Internal Medicine. Fellowship graduates will be prepared to develop successful, satisfying, and fulfilling careers advancing health equity and individual and population health.

VA Health Services Research & Development Post-MD Health Services Research Fellowships: The VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) Seattle offers two post-MD fellowship training programs funded by the Office of Academic Affiliations; one in ambulatory care and the other in health services research. The primary focus of both programs is the development of research skills.

Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine

Geriatric Medicine Fellowship (ACGME): This one-year training program provides clinical training in geriatric medicine to prepare physicians for a leadership role in geriatric medicine. Clinical services place emphasis on primary care, chronic disease management and transitions of care. Fellows learn from the diverse populations at our three main teaching hospitals and off site clinics and nursing homes.

Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program (ACGME): This one year fellowship trains fellows to become experts in delivering palliative medicine care for severe and chronically ill patients of all ages. In addition, meeting the challenge of palliative care for a growing elderly population is a focus in the program. The Palliative Medicine Fellowship program trains up to 4 post-residency physicians per year. 

Hematology and oncology

Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program (ACGME): Fellows in our program train in state-of-the-art facilities with distinguished faculty who perform cutting edge research to advance our knowledge of cancer and diseases of the blood and translate these discoveries to clinical care of patients. Clinical training provides practice in the care of patients with a broad range of disorders, including hematologic malignancies, non-malignant hematology, transfusion medicine, blood and marrow transplantation (BMT), and solid tumor oncology in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Medical Genetics

Non-ACGME fellowships:

Fellowship in Clinical Biochemical Genetics: This fellowship is designed to provide the trainee with the ability to supervise and direct the operations of a clinical biochemical genetics diagnostic laboratory and a broad knowledge of basic biochemistry and genetics.

Fellowship in Clinical Cytogenetics: This fellowship is designed to provide the trainee with the ability to supervise and direct the operations of a clinical cytogenetic diagnostic laboratory and a broad knowledge of human cytogenetics and array technologies.

Fellowship in Clinical Molecular Genetics: The objective of this program is to provide the candidate with the ability to supervise and direct the operations of a clinical molecular genetics diagnostic laboratory and a broad knowledge of basic molecular biology and genetics.

Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition

Endocrinology Fellowship Program (ACGME): This fellowship is designed to prepare talented physicians and scientists with a strong interest in research and careers in academic endocrinology.

Nephrology

Renal Fellowship Training Program (ACGME): This fellowship program offers three training pathways: 1) clinician educator; 2) basic science; 3) clinical research that lead to board eligibility in Nephrology.

Non-ACGME fellowships:

Dialysis Fellowship: This one-year fellowship offers a unique opportunity for those who have already completed education in an accredited nephrology fellowship training program to conduct research in the dialysis field and gain advanced training in dialysis techniques.

Transplant Fellowship: Completion of this fellowship will provide the individual with the qualifications to be a UNOS-approved medical director of a kidney transplant program.

Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (ACGME): This program offers clinical training and research opportunities designed to prepare physicians for a successful career in academic medicine.

Critical Care Medicine (ACGME): This is a one- or two-year program dedicated to clinical training in Critical Care Medicine.

Sleep Medicine (ACGME): This is a multi-disciplinary program involving faculty from pulmonary medicine, neurology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, dentistry and psychiatry. The goal of this one-year program is to provide outstanding multidisciplinary clinical training and experience in scholarly activities (teaching and/or research) related to sleep medicine.

Non-ACGME fellowship:

Palliative Care Research Fellowship Program: This is a 1-3 year program in palliative care research related to heart, lung or blood disease. 

Rheumatology

Rheumatology Fellowship Training Program (ACGME): This program is designed for those interested in becoming rheumatologists with academic appointments in teaching hospitals. The objectives are to ensure fellows 1) gain the clinical skills necessary to become proficient rheumatologists; 2) keep abreast of the latest advances in rheumatology; and, 3) acquire skills in rheumatic disease research.
