The Department of Medicine Staff Scholarships promote staff professional development by helping pay for the cost of classes, conferences, meetings, and workshops that further one’s career and benefit the work of the department and division.

Ryan Donnelly
Clinical Research Coordinator (Hematology and Oncology)
Supervisory skills certificate, UW POD and/or CCRP certificate, SOCRA
The goal of the Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) certificate through the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) would be to be have a recognized certification for Ryan’s current role in clinical research, highlighting his understanding and professional standards of the role. He intends to also take the required classes to obtain the UW Professional & Organizational Development (POD) supervisory skills certificate in order to home in on his leadership skills and how to manage/interpret the different communication and conflict styles.
Cassidy Inden
Program Operations Analyst (DOM Clinical Programs)
Foundations of Data Analysis course, UW Professional & Continuing Education
The main goal of this course is to learn and practice foundational data analysis methods, and technologies. From a personal perspective Cassidy would like to have hands on application of analysis methods, including refining Excel skills and learning more about SQL database and queries. In her role in Clinical Programs, Cassidy is responsible for a variety of tasks that involve data sets.
Priscilla Kim
Data Coordinator (Hematology and Oncology)
Certificate in Data Science, UW Professional & Continuing Education
After having worked in a role that captures data for clinical research trials, Priscilla would like to learn how to work with the data that is being produced to make decisions. Specifically, she would like to perform data analysis within the healthcare field. She is choosing the data science certificate as she already has an introductory level of programming. She would like to continue advancing her programming skills, while also incorporating statistics and machine learning algorithms in her education as well.
Elsie Kong
Shared Services Specialist (DOM Finance)
Managing Tough Conversations course, UW Foster School of Business
Elsie would like to learn different strategies to manage tough conversations with others. The goal of this class is to learn how to ask open ended / ask high value questions, learn to listen, engage and create alignment and maintain a good comfortable relationship with others. Elsie’s role is to complete compliance reviews and interact with 11 divisions in the Department of Medicine. These skills will help her communicate with people more effectively and comfortably to achieve the desired outcome on daily work.
Michaela Miller
Administrative Specialist (Allergy and Infectious Diseases)
Certificate in Project Management, UW Professional & Continuing Education
Michaela plans to take a project management course or similar professional certification course. She would like to work towards a full administrative certification and take some classes on project management with the ultimate goal of earning a project management certificate. She would like to expand her administrative tool kit to better support the faculty in her division. Having a foundation in project management will allow her to take on additional projects within the HMC Infectious Disease division. The division and overall DOM would benefit from having a certified project manager in a role like hers to better assist in the continued growth of innovation of the unit.
Harini Ramachandran
Principal Research Coordinator (Hematology and Oncology)
Certification in Project Management, UW Professional & Continuing Education
Harini has enrolled in the University of Washington's Certification in Project Management program to advance her career and take on more leadership roles. In her current role as Principal Research Coordinator, she collaborates across teams to execute and oversee various clinical trials. She has honed her capacity to evaluate project feasibility and foresee potential obstacles. While proficient in critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills, Harini’s goal is that this certification will further refine her skill set and enhance her effectiveness in her position.
Cynthia Yee
Budget/Fiscal Operations Supervisor (DOM Finance)
Soft Skills Workshop – Become a better communicator to advance in your career, UW Foster School of Business
In the soft skills workshop, Cynthia aims to enhance her professional development by refining her communication abilities. Given her role in the department - which involves frequent interactions with faculty, staff, external vendors, customers, and colleagues - effective communication is paramount. Additionally, as part of her responsibilities, she provides training to the fiscal staff within the divisions. By focusing on improving interpersonal skills, social skills, communication techniques, fostering positive attitudes, and honing teamwork and leadership abilities, she anticipates a significant boost in her efficiency at work.
