Overview
The Committee for Mentorship & Faculty Advocacy (CMFA) Award for Excellence in Mentoring award recognizes the need for excellence in mentoring faculty members from communities underrepresented in medicine and science.
Two awards will be presented: one focused on outstanding mentorship by an early-to-mid career faculty member (assistant or associate professor) and one recognizing the cumulative impact of a more senior faculty member’s mentoring (associate or full professor).
This opportunity is open to all. Nominations welcome from all departments and faculty pathways within the School of Medicine. Nominees do not need to identify as underrepresented in medicine or science. Faculty who have been nominated previously are eligible for this award but will need to have an updated nomination submitted.
The Nomination Process
Nominations should include the following letters of support (two-page maximum each):
- At least 1 letter from a senior supporter (e.g. department chair, division chief)
- 1-2 letter from mentees speaking to the nominee's experience and exceptionalism in mentorship
- The committee will accept no more than 4 total letters of support. Potential topics to cover in letters of support include evidence of exceptional career mentorship, how the nominee is a role model to mentees, and how the nominee provided sponsorship opportunities and fostered collaboration with mentees.
