Overview

Nominations are currently being accepted for the Marian and David Blazes Health Ecology Endowed Faculty Fellowship.

This fellowship is available to faculty members who hold primary or joint appointments in any UW department in the School of Medicine, and who are performing research focused on the intersection of health and the environment/ecology.

Candidates should have demonstrated outstanding potential for scholarly and professional contributions in health and the environment. Preference will be given to junior faculty applicants.

The fellowship will initially provide ~$3,600 per year, with the potential to grow over time. The faculty member will serve in this position for 3 years, after which the fellowship application process will be opened up again.

Application

  1. Submit a Letter of Intent (max. 2 pages) to describe how this fellowship would benefit you (in line with the intent of the fellowship: professional development for a faculty member whose research is focused on the intersection of health and the environment.)
    1. Describe and cite accomplishments that have prepared you for this fellowship (demonstrated through professional activities, expertise in health and the environment, and/or demonstrating a commitment to pivot to research in this area.)
  2. Provide a 5 page NIH Biosketch (or equivalent) which could be personalized for this award.

Submission instructions

Submit the letter of intent and biosketch to Dr. Wes Van Voorhis, Chair of the Selection Committee, by Nov 1, 2024.

Review

The Selection Committee will review the applications and select a subset for further information. Those selected will be invited, no later than December 1, 2024, for preparation of an Expanded Letter of Interest (up to 5pg), a SOM CV, an Other Support document, and three letters of recommendation, with a deadline of January 8, 2025, to allow the final selection.

The finalists will be reviewed by the Selection Committee, the School of Medicine Dean’s Office, and the UW Provost’s Office, with announcement of the fellowship holder in February or March, 2025.
