Overview

From 2022-2025 we offered a highly successful reconnection fund to help support reconnection events to build community and reconnect with colleagues and/or meet newer department members. 

Department members continue to reconnect with various events and activities. 

2025

Tea Time

Dr. Ken Steinberg and Sean Greenlee hosted the newly established "Tea Time" as part of our department community building initiatives. Image removed.

Reconnecting through art

The Department of Medicine Clinical Programs team reconnected at  local art studio Squirrelly Art Studio and Gift Workshop to make block prints and share memories together. Image removed.

Research connection

The research teams at the Center for Innovations in Cancer & Transplant, Cancer and Organ Transplant Clinic, UW Kidney Research Institute, and the UW Medicine Diabetes Institute collaborate, but due to geographical distances and busy research and clinical schedules, do not have the opportunity to meet face to face on a regular basis.

Planting a tree

A group in Boise, ID planted a mature red oak between the residency offices, back entrance to hospital and entrance to the resident teaching clinic, so faculty can walk by it on a regular basis. 

They had great support from the VA groundskeepers, City of Boise Arborist and representatives of the Treasure Valley Canopy Network, who attended the first part of the reconnection event, read an Arbor Day proclamation from the Mayor, and answered questions about the urban heat island effect and efforts locally to address climate change through projects like these.  Image removed.

2022

Gender Equity Council donut parties

Image removed.The Department of Medicine Gender Equity Council hosted a series of reconnection events (with coffee and donuts!) to provide opportunities to meet new people and reconnect with colleagues in the department.

Three events were held in November at different sites - Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake, and the Seattle VA - as a way for people at each location to meet each other and make new connections.

Curling for education

Internal Medicine Residents in our Clinician Educator Pathway used funds to reconnect through curling.
