Recent advancements:

Fecal transplants

Drs. Christina Surawicz and Elizabeth Broussard are performing fecal transplants on patients with recurrent Clostridium difficile (C.diff, for short). C.diff is a bacterial infection of the intestine that causes chronic nausea and diarrhea and even death in severe cases. The procedure has shown staggering success against recurrent C.diff and has changed the lives of countless patients.

Therapeutic ultrasound

Dr. Joo Ha Hwang has received the Frederic Lizzi Award from the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound. This award recognizes the contributions of Dr. Hwang’s research group to therapeutic ultrasound, particularly for the investigation of high-intensity focused ultrasound enhanced delivery of chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.
